Find A Way Out. Monday Second Week of Advent

Breakfast With the Word Monday Second Week of Advent

Luke 5:17-26

One of the lyrics that inspired me in life is “ I’M MAKING MY WAY HOME by Tom Rosenthal. The beginning of the lyrics says:

They say it’s a matter of time
A thousand days and the sun won’t shine
Before I come back to you

And I’m happy, nothing’s going to stop me
I’m making my way home, I’m making my way

The song is a reflection of someone whose mind is willing to find a way despite the years it takes. You may find a little time and search for it on Youtube. The song is highly inspiring.

When problems come, when challenges hit us at the face, it looks as if every door is closed, the easiest thing we do at this time is to blame, criticize and lose faith in God. Sometimes it is very easy to make excuses, but instead of looking for excuses, find a way.

There is still a way out of every problem. I so much have this singular belief that there is a way out of every situation lying out there unless God concludes.

This is one of the inspiring traits we can see in ants. The only creature we cannot stop from achieving its purpose despite how hard it seems is an ant.

When ants walk and you try to block their movement, they will certainly find a way out. Hence, when the challenge seems bigger, they come in numbers and groups to face the challenges at hand.

When we go through the readings of today which surely have different interpretations, this is the first lesson one can draw from today’s reading.

The Gospel.

In today’s gospel, while Jesus was teaching, some people came bringing a paralyzed man to Jesus but they were prevented by the huge crowd surrounding Jesus.

Instead of losing hope or blaming the crowd for being their stumbling block, they decided to find a way. They climbed to the top of the roof of the house and let him down from the top of the roof in the presence of Jesus.

Jesus marvels at their faith. He praises their faith and hence forgives and heals the man in question. One of the things that will surely inspire us about these people is their willing and zealous spirit to find a way despite the stumbling block.

What Stops You.

When we critically look at the reading of today, we will surely discover that there are many things that would have stopped these people from making their way to Jesus.

When they saw the huge crowd, they would have lose faith, criticize and blame one person or another. They would have put blame on Jesus even but they were not stopped by what they see.

Therefore, In life, do not quit your heart dreams because of what you think or see, rather try a way out. Even when you do not find a way, make a way yourself.

Luke does not tell us the exact place this takes place but many suggest it is in a synagogue which is reserved for teaching. But In Mark’s account of Mark 2:1-12, it happened in the house where Jesus is staying.

These groups of people would have wasted their time worrying and waiting for the synagogue service to end. Some scholars even envisage that the top of the building of the synagogue is very high. Hence not even the height of the building could stop them.

What is stopping you from reaching your destination? Instead of backsliding and losing faith, find a way out.

Find a way even when problems seem insurmountable. When life gives you a hundred reasons to lose faith and become tired, give life a hundred reasons why you will never give up. Even when people seem to lose faith in you, do not lose faith in yourself. Always find a way out.

Where You May Find A Way.

1. Others may help you find a way. Today, the paralysed man was healed because of the faith and tenacious spirit from others.

We know that Ants conquer fortresses only when they are in groups. No organisation, company or business works alone. This means that You may need the help of the other person.

Always seek for direction when you can from other people. Therefore, when you are stucked and you do not know what to do, seek advice, help and direction from those who have done it before you. They may help you find a way.

Someone says “follow those who know road”. In today’s gospel, if not for the help of other people, the paralytic wouldn’t have been healed. Sometimes, we need the help and faith of other people to find a way.

Secondly, it is good to work in groups. find people who are eager to help you. Even Jesus did not do His ministry alone. He sought for the help of His apostles. Even the apostles also had disciples. Always do the same.

Thirdly, when you pray and it looks as if nothing is happening, ask the help of others. Ask people to pray for you.

You may even request masses from them or request the prayers of little children. Their prayers are very powerful. Children are like angels in God’s presence.

2.The Head may help you find a way. Spend time to think out solutions rather than excuses. The head is full of solutions and ideas to solve problems.

If you like, you can wake up early in the morning and use the moment to think of solutions after your prayers. The best place to do this is in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. You may try it.

The people who brought the paralytic to Jesus today would have lost hope but they have to think out a solution.

So, that time we always worry over our problems, let us use it to think a way out.

3.God always has a solution. After every effort the people made today, we will discover that Jesus was the final solution.

So, In today’s event, we will discover the three seeds of every great achievement. They are; think, work and pray.

The people thought out a solution, worked towards it and Jesus made it happen. Let us do the same. God always makes a way even in the midst of impossibility.

It may take a long time but find a way if it truly matters to you.

May God bless you dearest and help us to stand always on His Word. May He give us the grace to overcome our challenges Amen.
