Breakfast With the Word Monday 12th Week Ordinary Time of the Year B Shorter Version
Matthew 7:1–5
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.” This does not mean we should ignore evil, refuse to correct others, or pretend that wrong actions are right. Rather, Jesus warns us against harsh condemnation, quick judgment, gossip, and destroying another person’s image.

True correction should come from love, not pride or revenge. We are called to correct in order to help, heal, and guide, not to condemn or shame. Before judging others, Jesus reminds us to first examine ourselves: “Remove the log from your own eye first.” This teaches us humility, because none of us is perfect.
Only God sees the heart and knows the full truth about every person. Many times, we judge people based on rumours, assumptions, or one mistake, without knowing their struggles or intentions. As Christians, we must avoid being faultfinders and learn to see the good in others.
Jesus invites us to be merciful, patient, and fair. We should correct with love, seek the truth before speaking, and avoid spreading false stories about others. Our duty is not to destroy people, but to help them become better.
May God give us humble hearts, protect us from judging others wrongly, and help us live in love and peace. Amen.
