Breakfast with the Word Saturday 1 Week Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

A relationship is built on closeness, interaction, and shared life. Jesus desires such a relationship with everyone. He does not exclude anyone; rather, He is especially open to those who feel unworthy, broken, or burdened by their past.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus calls Levi, a tax collector despised by society, and even eats with sinners. This does not mean He approves of sin, but it shows His deep desire to heal, forgive, and transform lives. Jesus does not focus on our past mistakes; He focuses on what we can become through an encounter with Him.

Many people believe their past has disqualified them from God’s mercy, but with Jesus, the past is not an option. He invites us to draw close, repent, and begin again. Like a good physician, Jesus comes not for those who think they are righteous, but for those who know they are sick and need healing.

As long as we are alive, there is hope. Jesus is still calling, still forgiving, and still ready to make us new.

All He asks is that we respond to Him today and approach His throne of mercy with faith and love. Amen.
