The Wonders of the Word of God. Sunday Breakfast with the Word. 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Shorter Version.
On this Sunday of the Word of God, the Church invites us to rediscover the beauty, power, and life-changing nature of God’s Word. Sadly, many Christians today neglect the Word—finding little time to read, reflect on, or live it. This celebration calls us back to a deeper love and reverence for Scripture.
The Gospel of John reminds us that the Word is not just a message but a Person:
“In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
This Word became flesh in Jesus Christ (John 1:14). God now speaks to us through His Son. Therefore, the Word of God is divine, powerful, and transformative.
The Word Is Light.
The first reading from Isaiah speaks of people walking in darkness who have seen a great light. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus went to live and preach in Galilee—Zebulun and Naphtali—bringing hope where despair once reigned. Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the true Light that no darkness can overcome.
Today, that same Word continues to enlighten our lives. It brings hope to the distressed, guidance to the lost, comfort to the broken, and strength to the weak. As the psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp for my steps and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).

We Need the Word.
Where Jesus went, He first preached the Word, then healed and restored lives. Likewise, we need Christ to dwell in our hearts. Obedience to His Word brings conversion, healing, and renewal. The Word of God is truly life-changing.
We Are Heralds of the Word.
Every Christian is called to proclaim the Good News. Like Paul, we are sent not to be ashamed of the Gospel but to live it and share it. Our mission is to win souls for Christ by valuing the Word and becoming the Gospel we preach. Mary remains our perfect model: “Let it be done to me according to your word.”
Conclusion.
The Word of God is alive, powerful, and effective. It never returns to God empty but accomplishes His purpose (Isaiah 55:10–11). Though many find the Bible boring or difficult, it is in truth the most complete and life-giving book—guiding us spiritually, morally, and emotionally.
Let us rediscover the wonders of the Word of God, speak it boldly, live it faithfully, and allow it to transform our lives and the lives of others.
Amen.
