Breakfast With the Word Friday 5th Week Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version
In Mark 7:31–37, Jesus heals a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, restoring him to wholeness. This miracle reminds us that true healing comes from God. While doctors can treat illness, only God heals both natural and spiritual infirmities and brings us back to life when we are weakened by sin.
Like the deaf man, we too can experience spiritual deafness and impediments—obstacles that block our growth, progress, and relationship with God. At such times, we need to bring ourselves into God’s presence and allow His Word to speak into our hearts. When Jesus says “Ephphatha” (“Be opened”), everything returns to normal. In the same way, God’s Word can restore what is broken in our lives.

We are also called to bring others to Jesus through our words, actions, and prayers, becoming instruments of healing for those who feel lost or spiritually deaf.
Finally, God works in His own way and time. Even when our prayers are not answered as we expect, we must trust that His ways are higher than ours. Whatever way God decides to answer our prayers, whenever He wants to, and whichever way He thinks is better for you is always good.
