Why It Looks As If God is Not Working In Your Life: Luke 11:14-23

Breakfast with the Word: Thursday of the 3rd Week of Lent

Luke 11:14–23.

Many Christians sometimes feel worried about their faith and begin to think that God is not working in their lives. However, the problem is often not that God is absent, but that we fail to recognize His presence and the many ways He is already working.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus casts out a demon that had made a man mute. While some people were amazed, others accused Him of using the power of Beelzebub, and some demanded more signs from Him. Their reactions reveal several reasons why it may seem as though God is not working in our lives.

First, we sometimes fail to recognize the goodness of God. Many blessings in our lives go unnoticed because we focus only on what we do not have instead of being grateful for what we already have.

Second, we attribute God’s work to human effort or other causes. Instead of acknowledging God as the source of every good gift, we credit our intelligence, other people, or circumstances.

Third, doubt and unbelief can harden our hearts. Even when God works in our lives, fear and skepticism prevent us from recognizing His hand.

Finally, dissatisfaction makes us constantly seek bigger signs and miracles. Like the people in the Gospel, we may overlook the daily blessings God gives us while waiting for something more dramatic.

Jesus desires that we have a strong faith and a living relationship with Him. When we drift away from Him, our lives become scattered.

Always remember that He is always alive and still active. May God help us to understand Him. May He also continue to protect you and answer your prayers. Amen.
