Breakfast with the Word – Tuesday of the 4th Week of Lent
John 5:1–3, 5–16
Today’s reflection invites us to ask an important question: Do we truly want to be made well? We often come before God asking for mercy, healing, and breakthroughs, yet at times we struggle with faith, prayer, and a constant relationship with Him.

In the Gospel, Jesus meets a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years at the pool of Bethzatha. When Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”, the man began explaining his difficulties instead of simply saying yes. Yet Jesus, moved with mercy, told him, “Get up, pick up your sleeping-mat and walk,” and he was immediately healed. The man’s long wait at the pool showed his hope and willingness to be healed.
Like this man, many of us face challenges and sometimes think our problems are punishments from God or the result of past mistakes. But Jesus is always ready to heal and save us. What is required of us is faith, patience, and openness to God’s grace. We must be willing to remain steadfast, speak to the Lord about our struggles, and seek Him sincerely through prayer.
Jesus’ question invites us to examine ourselves, our weaknesses, and the sins that keep us spiritually stuck. It is a call to conversion, faith, and trust in God’s saving power.
But the question still remains: do we really want to be made well?
