Breakfast with the Word Thursday 5th Week of Lent Shorter Version
The Gospel of John 8:51–59 presents a deep dialogue between Jesus and the Jews, where He declares that whoever keeps His word will never see death. This confuses and shocks them because they see Him as an ordinary man, no greater than Abraham or the prophets who all died. Instead of seeking understanding, they accuse Him of being possessed and reject His claims, even when He reveals His divine identity.

Their reaction shows how a lack of true knowledge of Jesus leads to misunderstanding and rejection. When hearts are closed, even truth sounds unreasonable. Like the Jews, we too may struggle to accept certain teachings of Jesus, choosing what to believe while ignoring what challenges us.
This reflection invites us to examine our own hearts: do we truly know Jesus, or have we also closed ourselves to His word? Faith requires openness, trust, and a willingness to understand beyond human reasoning.
May God help us and give us the grace to continually come close to Him. May He never allow you to stumble Amen
