Breakfast with the Word Tuesday 12th Week Ordinary Time of The Year Shorter Version

Matthew 7:6, 12–14

In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives three key principles for living a meaningful and faithful life.

1. Be careful who you invest in

Jesus warns not to “give what is holy to dogs or pearls to pigs,” meaning we should avoid people who consistently reject, devalue, or destroy what is good in us. Not everyone will appreciate your efforts or God’s message, so we must be wise and protect our peace from those with harmful intentions.

2. The Golden Rule

“Do unto others what you want them to do to you.” Jesus teaches that true peace and harmony come when we treat others with love, respect, and kindness first. Whatever we sow—good or bad—we will eventually reap. If we want peace, love, and progress, we must first give it to others.

3. Choose the narrow path

Jesus presents two roads: the wide and easy path that leads to destruction, and the narrow, difficult path that leads to life. The easy way often involves compromise, sin, and comfort, while the narrow way requires discipline, sacrifice, and obedience to God—but it leads to eternal life.

Conclusion

True Christian living requires wisdom in relationships, intentional goodness toward others, and the courage to follow God even when it is difficult. The reward is lasting peace and eternal life.
