Breakfast with the Word Friday Fourth Week in Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version
Mark 6: 14-29
The gospel of today (Mark 6:14–29) presents the tragic story of the beheading of John the Baptist and highlights the danger of opportunism, as seen in Herodias. She harboured evil in her heart for a long time and waited patiently for the right moment to destroy the prophet who challenged her wrongdoing.

When the opportunity finally came, she seized it without hesitation. This reflection reminds us that Herodias still exist in our society today—people who smile outwardly but secretly nurture harmful intentions, using positions, relationships, or power to achieve selfish and wicked goals. Yet, the story also reassures us that God can turn evil plans into instruments of glory for the righteous, just as the death of John the Baptist did not erase his greatness.
Therefore, we are called to examine our hearts and make good use of every opportunity God gives us, knowing that God sees all hidden intentions and ultimately grants victory to the righteous.
So, let us make good use of the opportunities God gives us to help, promote, and save lives rather than destroying them.
