Breakfast with the Word – Wednesday 3rd Week of Lent (Year) Shorter Version
Matthew 5:17–19
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells His disciples that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. His mission is to bring to completion what the law and the prophets foretold and to reveal their true meaning.

The Pharisees focused mainly on observing the letter of the law, but Jesus teaches that the deeper purpose of the law is love of God and love of neighbour. By His life and teaching, He shows the true spirit behind God’s commandments.
Jesus also emphasizes the authority and permanence of God’s word. Every word from God will accomplish its purpose and come to fulfillment. Those who keep God’s word and teach others to do the same will be considered great in the Kingdom of God.
Therefore, the Christian life is not just about observing rules but about remaining close to Jesus, who is the fulfillment of the law. When we stay close to Him, we grow in sincere love for God and neighbour, and in doing so we truly keep God’s law.
May God help us to remain close to Him. May He never forsake you. Amen.
