Breakfast With the Word Monday 2nd Week of Lent Shorter Version
Luke 6:36–38
In Gospel of Luke 6:36–38, Jesus calls us to be merciful just as our Heavenly Father is merciful. Mercy means forgiving, letting go, and treating others with kindness, even when they hurt us. Though we may feel anger or desire revenge, God asks us to pray for those who wrong us instead of condemning them.

We are God’s children, called to live like Him. Choosing to follow Christ means choosing to obey His command to forgive. Refusing to show mercy leads to division, bitterness, and even condemnation, but forgiveness invites God’s mercy into our lives. As Jesus teaches, the measure we give is the measure we receive. When we forgive, we open ourselves to God’s forgiveness and free ourselves from anger, bondage, and spiritual loss.
Forgiveness is not weakness; it is obedience to God and a path to peace and eternal reward. When we refuse to forgive, we harm ourselves more than the offender. Forgiveness benefits us—it releases us and brings us closer to God.
May God have mercy on us and give us the grace to forgive one another. Amen.
