Envy is a negative feeling that arises when people feel threatened or unsettled by the gifts, success, or actions of others, and it can be found everywhere—within families, workplaces, friendships, and communities. In today’s Gospel, Jesus experiences this firsthand when He returns to His hometown.
Although the people were amazed at His wisdom, they allowed over-familiarity, envy, and lack of faith to blind them, leading them to take offence instead of glorifying God. Because of their attitude, Jesus could not perform many mighty works among them, and He was astonished at their lack of faith.

The reflection reminds us that envy often comes from those we least expect, sometimes even from those closest to us.
Like Jesus, we are called not to react with anger but with understanding, silence, perseverance, and goodness. We must never allow the envy or negativity of others to stop us from doing good, but instead continue our mission for the sake of God.
