Breakfast With the Word – Friday, 15th Week in Ordinary Time (Year B)
Matthew 12:1-8
Today’s Gospel reminds us that true faith is not measured by how religious we appear, how often we pray, or how many biblical words we quote, but by how much love, mercy, and compassion we show to others.

The Pharisees focused on strictly keeping the Sabbath law but forgot its true purpose: to serve God and bring salvation to people. Jesus teaches that the law should never become a burden or prevent us from showing kindness and saving lives. Mercy is greater than sacrifice.
Like the Pharisees, we can sometimes fulfil our religious duties while carrying hatred, jealousy, unforgiveness, and bitterness in our hearts. Jesus desires more than outward practices; He desires a heart that loves, forgives, helps, and cares for others.
True worship is seen in our actions towards humanity. A person who prays often but ignores the suffering of others has missed the heart of God’s message. The love shown by the Good Samaritan reflects the kind of compassion Jesus wants from us.
May we seek not only to appear holy but to become truly transformed—people with humble, merciful, and loving hearts. For the Lord desires a broken and contrite heart that turns away from sin and lives in love. Amen.
