Breakfast With the Word Wednesday of Holy Week
HOW WE ALSO BETRAY JESUS
Mathew 26:14-25
As we approach the peak of the Lenten season, the tension among the JEWS and also the church encourages us to intensify also our Lenten observances which is our prayers work of charity and fasting.
In today’s reading which is the last day before the Easter Triduum, the church present to us the betrayal of Jesus in the gospel reading and the suffering messiah from the book of Isaiah.
Betrayal
To betray simply means to breach trust. It can mean also disloyalty to a trusted friend. Betrayal usually comes from those we trusted so much. Our greatest enemies are our friends in disguise.
Our friends tend to betray us easily because we are so flexible with our secret with them, we tend to trust them so much because they aren’t our familiar enemies.
From the reading of today, the church present to us Christ as a humble lamb who was betrayed by his own apostle.
The betrayal of Jesus by Judas his own apostle is one that sends a message to all of us that even we can betray our Lord and master.
One may argue like Judas that we can never betray Jesus just like Judas did. Even though it was destined that one of Jesus’ disciples will betray Jesus, Judas allowed the devil to use him.
We too can betray Jesus just like Judas did today. The betrayal of Jesus by Judas also with the denial by peter came with a sign which they both neglect they did not pay attention to it, but they believe they can overcome it when the time comes.
THE SIGNS OF JUDAS BETRAYAL
In the gospel narrative of John where we read today, we see Christ giving Judas the sign that he will betray him.
Judas was carried away because he failed to listen. He was so absent minded about the signs Christ gave him.
The church calls us to avoid distractions at this holy week.
We are encouraged to listen to the words of Christ to avoid talking too much both internally and externally but listen to the signs of the time we are now.
Remember that if we fail to listen to ourselves and the words of Christ, we will continue to betray Christ as we always do just like Judas.
HOW WE BETRAY CHRIST
One may argue that we do not betray Christ since we fast, give alms and prayer harder during lent. But indeed, how we also betray Jesus can be by the following ways.
Our Action
Our action is one of many reasons how we also betray Jesus. Many of us who claim to be followers of Jesus, betray him by the acts we put up sometimes.
We betray Jesus when we also harden our hearts to his words as Judas did.
We betray Jesus when we also pretend to love Jesus but deep inside our hearts we do not, just as Judas did. we come only come to come to church to answer a member but our love for God is not true.
We betray Christ in our offices when we are not honest and sincere to our work and those who we work with.
When our spiritual lives is fake let us know that we are betraying Jesus
Our Treasure
Judas in today’s reading betrayed Jesus because of 30 silver pieces. How we also betray Jesus with money today include our refusing to give our own financial contribution in our church projects.
How we can also betray Jesus is to pretend to work for God but deep inside our hearts we are working for the monetary gain and selfish interests.
This is when our love for God is not true. It is also when we are motivated by our own selfish desires.
We betray Jesus also when we do not show acts of love to people. Instead of being Christ for them, we manipulate and use them. Just like Judas we appear to be good in the Public but behind we are not.
Many of us don’t even carry out work of Charity on our own because we don’t want to give our finances to others knowing fully well, that it is Christ that we are actually giving it to.
Our time
Time is the most important thing one can give after money. Many of us do not know that we can also betray Jesus with our time.
How we can also betray Jesus with our time include by not been punctual at mass. By not been punctual at the agreed time we set to pray, i.e. to do our devotion, mediation, Visitation to the Blessed sacrament etc.,
How we betray Jesus by not been Punctual at prayer is that we keep Jesus waiting at the agreed time sometimes He will be there and we will never show up.
Many of us are guilty of this type of betrayal, therefore we do not blame only Judas. We also blame ourselves. Let us look inside and make a Change.
May God bless you dearest and give us the grace not to betray him again. AMEN

Amen! Thank you father.
I am one of those who condemn the action of Judas outright, but like Judas, I have .sometimes betrayed my church, my family, our country and the establishment where I worked. I have equally betrayed Jesus by failure to share my time and treasure with Him.
Lord, I pray for the Judases who are masterminds of people’s problems as well as for those who facilitate the evil that leads people into harms way.
I pray for those who steal public funds. Make them change their ways, Lord.
Deliver me , dear Lord, that I may not, by the choices i make today, be the other Judas , but rather share in the sufferings of others and alleviate their problems and not be the cause. May my commitment to being Jesus’ friend not be blown off by the whims of my emotion. Whenever I seem to be losing my bearing, please, redirect my footsteps in the path of truth, loyalty and love. Replace my spirit of betrayal with sincere ❤️.Amen!
You’re always in my prayers, Padre.
Am resolved to Be.a.point.of.light.
Amen!
Padre thank you, God bless you 🙏
Amen. Lord please I beg for pardon in any way I have betrayed you knowingly and unknownly.
