Breakfast with the Word Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

 

Luke 1:39-56

 

 

Today, the church celebrates the feast of the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth. The church deems it pertinent to celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on May 31. The month of May is the month the Church devotes to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

 

 

Hence, The feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary brings to a conclusion the month we devote to our Blessed Mother. Today’s feast is the second joyful mystery of the Holy Rosary. 

 

 

It was during the annunciation by Angel Gabriel that Mary knew that Elizabeth is with a child. The Angel Gabriel tells Mary “And I tell you this too that your cousin Elizabeth also in her old age has conceived a son and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month for nothing is impossible to God ( Luke 1:36-37).

 

 

So, immediately after the announcement, Mary set out immediately and quickly into the hill country to a town in Judah and visited Elizabeth.

 

Immediately She greets Elizabeth, the child leaps with joy in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

 

 

So, Mary’s visit today brings joy to the house of Zechariah even to an unborn child. There are some lessons we can derive from this visit and they are:

 

 

Mary brings Blessing.

 

The presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the house of Elizabeth changed the condition of the place. In this encounter, the child jumped with Joy and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

 

In Fact, the family was blessed. Elizabeth, who felt that something different was happening, shouted “who am I lord that the mother of My Lord should come to me?’ 

 

Hence the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary also changes the condition of anyone who invites her spiritually.

 

When she comes, she comes with her son, she comes with the Holy Spirit. Encounter with her is a source of joy, blessings, and the power of God. 

 

 

Her Presence can make the Impossible Happen.

 

 

The feast of the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an indication that Mary is anointed from on High. Hence the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary blessed the family also with the anointing power of the Holy Spirit. 

 

 

Her presence was powerfully felt that even an unborn child felt the presence of the Blessed Mother. How this happened we do not know.

 

How the child knew that She is present is beyond scientific explanation. Hence this tells us that the presence of the Blessed Mother can also make the impossible happen. 

 

 

If an unborn child can experience the anointing that comes with only her presence, what of when she prays. Therefore, when she comes into our lives something significant must happen. 

 

 

Be Willing to Help Others.

 

 

There is something we have to note in this encounter. Did we discover that immediately the angel tells Mary that her cousin Elizabeth is with a child, the bible says that she has to rush immediately to visit her?

Mary did not consider postponing her visit, she did not consider her own needs. She abandons all of them and sets out to immediately visit Elizabeth. Here we see someone willing to help.

 

 In the same way, there are many people today who may only need a little visitation from us. Our visit to them can give them consolation, joy and encouragement. Many of them are living around us and beside us. 

Like Mary brings joy to the family of Zechariah, we need to put smiles on the faces of some people. So, in whatever we do, let us be willing to serve, to help others and also to give joy to them.

 

 

Mary’s Magnificat.

 

 

Finally, after Elizabeth blessed Mary through the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, she would have prided herself and made boastful comments. Instead, she was glorifying God. 

 

 

Mary teaches us to give glory to God in whatever happens in our lives. Everything that happens to us should be for the glory of God. Let us embrace our mother Mary today, as we celebrate the feast of her visitation. 

 

 

She is a joy giver, teacher of the faith, giver of graces and avenue of the anointing power of the Holy Spirit. Through her, God can make impossible things happen. 

 

May God through the intercession and visitation of the Blessed Mother Mary also visit us with heavenly blessings and gifts. Amen.
