Breakfast with the Word: Monday of the 4th Week of Lent
John 4:43–54
The Gospel of today recounts the encounter between Jesus and a royal official whose son was very sick. The man traveled from Capernaum to Galilee to seek Jesus and begged Him to heal his son. Instead of going with him, Jesus simply told him to go home, assuring him that his son would live. The official believed Jesus’ word and returned home, and indeed his son was healed at the very moment Jesus spoke.

This story shows what true faith looks like. Despite being a court official with many responsibilities, the man made the effort to personally search for Jesus because his need was important to him. His journey and determination show that sincere faith pushes us to seek God wholeheartedly, no matter the cost.
Another sign of his faith was his obedience. Even though Jesus did not do exactly what he requested, the official accepted Jesus’ word without doubt and trusted that it would happen. True faith means believing in God and trusting His word even when we do not see immediate evidence.
The official also approached Jesus with humility and placed God above his busy schedule. His example reminds us that faith grows when we sincerely seek God, listen to His word, obey Him, and trust His ways rather than insisting on our own.
The encounter in John 4:43–54 teaches us that any effort we make towards finding Jesus will never go in vain.
