Do Not Be The First to Cast Stones. Monday 5th Week of Lent

Breakfast With the Word Monday 5th Week of Lent Shorter Version

This reflection reminds us not to be quick to judge or condemn others based on incomplete or false information. “Casting stones” represents our tendency to criticize, attack, and destroy others’ reputations without knowing the truth. Many people suffer silently because of unjust accusations and gossip, often from those they once trusted.

The readings highlight two women accused of adultery—one innocent (Susanna) and one guilty—yet both faced harsh judgment until God intervened through Daniel and Jesus. This shows that human judgment can be flawed, biased, and sometimes hypocritical, especially when we ignore our own faults. Too often, we focus on others’ mistakes, enjoy spreading negative stories, and fail to verify the truth or offer support.

Jesus teaches that only those without sin should judge others, reminding us to be humble, compassionate, and forgiving. While it is right to stand against wrongdoing, our goal should be to guide others back to God rather than condemn them. Like Jesus, we are called to save, love, and restore, not to destroy.

May God bless and He give us the grace to live like Jesus, love like Jesus and forgive like Him. May He never allow you to stumble. Amen.
