Breakfast With the Word Monday 11th Week Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

The reflection on Matthew 5:38–43 teaches that Jesus calls His followers to overcome evil with goodness rather than revenge. While the natural response to hurt or injustice is retaliation, Jesus challenges believers to respond with love, forgiveness, and generosity—even toward enemies.

Although this teaching is difficult and may seem unrealistic, it reflects the true mark of Christian life. Instead of repaying evil with evil, Christians are called to trust God with their battles, live without bitterness, and show love in action.

Examples from Scripture, such as David sparing Saul and Jesus praying for His persecutors, show that victory comes through mercy, not revenge.

Ultimately, the message is that love is stronger than evil, and those who choose forgiveness and goodness allow God to fight their battles and bring lasting peace and blessing.

May God bless you dearest and give us the grace to forgive our offenders. May He never allow you to be defeated amen.
