Breakfast With the Word Saturday After Epiphany (Shorter Version)
What we say about others reveals who we are. Those who constantly speak negatively show jealousy, insecurity, and immaturity, while those who find and promote good in others reveal virtue and humility.

The Gospel (John 3:22–30) presents John the Baptist as a model of this virtue. When his disciples felt threatened by Jesus baptizing alongside him, John refused jealousy or rivalry. Instead, he recognized his mission, rejoiced in Jesus’ success, and declared, “He must increase, and I must decrease.” His response shows deep humility, self-knowledge, and faithfulness to his calling.
The reflection teaches that focusing on our own mission leaves no room for envy, backbiting, or destructive comparisons. Promoting the good in others, addressing issues directly with love, and working together in humility brings greater peace and fruitfulness than jealousy or competition.
