Our Reverence to God; True or Worthless? Mark 7:1–13

Breakfast with the Word Tuesday Week 5 in Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

In Mark 7:1–13, Jesus teaches that true reverence for God is not about outward appearances or mere observance of human traditions, but about sincere worship that comes from the heart.

Genuine reverence flows from love, respect, and a real relationship with God, not from lip service, positions, obligations, or the desire for human praise. Like the Pharisees, we can appear holy while our hearts are far from God, making our worship empty and worthless.

Our actions, prayers, and participation in church only have meaning when they are rooted in a sincere desire to love, serve, and encounter God.

This Gospel challenges us to examine our intentions and ask whether our worship is truly heartfelt or merely mechanical and self-serving.

May God forgive us dearest and may we especially encounter Him today Amen
