The Way God wants Us to Treat Others. Tuesday 3rd Week of Lent

Breakfast with the Word: Tuesday, Third Week of Lent (Year C)

Matthew 18:21–35

God expects His children to treat others with the same mercy and kindness He shows to us. However, when people hurt or betray us, we often feel the desire to take revenge or pay them back for what they did. While this may seem justified, it is not the way God wants us to respond.

In the Gospel, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who offends him, suggesting seven times. Jesus replies that it should not be seven times but seventy-seven times, teaching that forgiveness should have no limits. To explain this, Jesus tells the parable of a king who forgave a servant a huge debt. Yet the same servant refused to forgive a fellow servant who owed him a much smaller amount. When the king heard of this, he became angry and punished him for his lack of mercy.

This parable reminds us that what we owe God through our sins is far greater than whatever others owe us. Yet God continues to forgive, love, and care for us. Therefore, He expects us to show the same mercy to others—by loving, forgiving, and helping them just as He does for us.

When we forgive and treat others with kindness, we reflect God’s love and help create peace in our families, communities, and the world. Today, let us resolve to forgive from the heart and treat others well. May God help us to follow His word and forgive us in any way we have sinned against Him.
