At the Last Supper, Jesus reveals that one of His disciples will betray Him. He identifies Judas by giving him bread—not to cause his betrayal, but as a final act of love and a sign to the others. Judas had already chosen his path, influenced by greed and evil thoughts, and despite Jesus’ love, he walked away. As John says, “it became night,” symbolizing Judas leaving the Light and entering darkness.

This moment reminds us that evil begins in the heart. When we entertain sinful thoughts, they grow into actions and consequences. Like Judas, many choose darkness over light—often driven by worldly desires such as money—and gradually lose their connection with God.
Jesus was deeply troubled, not only by His coming suffering but because Judas chose separation from Him. Even today, Jesus is troubled when we turn away, live in sin, and neglect our spiritual lives. Darkness spreads when we reject God’s love and embrace a life without Him.
Yet, Jesus never stops loving us. Just as He reached out to Judas, He still invites us to return to Him. Holy Week is a call to leave the darkness, repent, and come back to the Light. No matter our sins, God’s mercy is always available to those who seek Him.
