Serve God with what you have: Saturday 31st Week

ads

Breakfast with the Word Saturday 31st Week Ordinary Time of the Year

Luke 16:9-15

Serving God comes from the heart. To serve God involves our mind, soul and body. It involves a wholehearted relationship. Nothing has to come in between our relationship with God and nothing should come first.

God appreciates every little effort we make to keep ourselves close to Him. Despite what you have, whether big or small, use it to serve your God. Use it to promote peace, love, progress and the gospel. Every little thing we offer to God counts a lot for Him.

Serve God with what you have whether big or small. He understands even the tiny efforts we make. Do not wait to make it big to serve God. Begin from where you are.

The Standards for Living the Christian Life

Use Wealth to gain friends.

The gospel of today proceeds from that of yesterday. We can still remember the story of the shrewd servant who dishonestly made his way.

Proceeding from that, Jesus asks His hearers to use worldly wealth to gain friends so that they can be admitted into the eternal dwellings.

The connection between eternity and worldly wealth here gives us an insight into what Jesus is trying to say.

The pointer here is that the judicious use of wealth can make way for any person.

In essence, whatever we have is this world is given to us and hence meant to save lives or uplift the lives of others. When we live to use what we have to wipe away the sorrows in the lives of others, we are also working for ourselves towards eternity.

This is the point Jesus is making.

Therefore, in the end, God will not look at how many times we have spoken in tongues or called down fire from heaven but how many lives we have touched with our positions, wealth, talents, gifts etc.

The question, at last, will be how many souls we have saved and how many people saw light through us.

Therefore, Instead of allowing our possessions to lead us to eternal damnation, they can lead us to the eternal dwelling place of God, if we can use them in saving souls.

These wealth is not only money; it also involves whatever your have. They are your positions, gifts, talents, professions, etc. Jesus says, “use these to work your way to eternity”. Therefore, this is a call to use what we have to work for our salvation and the salvation of souls.

Despite How Little.

We must not have the whole world to serve God. We must not be the richest to save lives. The little you have is enough. When God sees how diligent you are with the little you have, more can be added unto you.

You can serve God with whatever you can do better. It can be singing, prayer, service, etc. In everything that we do, let us do them for the glory of God.

We can see the importance in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 when the master rewarded the servants who showed faith even in little things He gave to them.

In the gospel, He says that whoever can be trusted with little can be trusted with much but whoever is dishonest with little will also be dishonest with much.

Let us not play dice with whatever God has given to us. A small act of kindness, love, transparency etc can have a very big impact on our lives. That small thing you feel you can do can save thousands of souls.

You must not be there to reach there. Always begin from where you are and with the little you have. Serve God with anything you feel you can do. The more little you can do is the more grace you can acquire.

Secondly, earthly wealth is little in comparison with heavenly riches. Our faith in these little things God has given to us can pave way for our eternity. But how dishonest and brutal we are with them shows we are not worthy of heavenly glory. God looks at how we are using the little things He has given to us to serve and work for Him.

Thirdly, it is God who gives us everything we have. If we are not trustworthy and cannot give an account of them shows we are not ready for that glory awaiting the children of God.

Jesus asks today that if we are not trustworthy of worldly wealth, how can He trust us with true riches? If you cannot handle someone’s property, who will give you your inheritance?

So the way we use these things that we borrow from God shows whether we can be worthy of the eternal riches yet to come.

We cannot serve Two Masters.

Jesus says that no one can serve both God and wealth. It is either we love one and hate the other or hate one and love the other. In the sense that God is the focal point of everything we have and not wealth.

We are given to give. God blesses us to bless others. He gifts us to gift to others. God blesses us not to curse and to make people suffer. He does not give us wealth to worship wealth. God gives to us that we may touch lives.

So, let us use whatever we have to serve God and worship Him. God didn’t give us anything for us to turn it as our Creator. You are lucky to have them, so use them for the glory of God.

May God bless you dearest and give us the grace to serve Him wholeheartedly. May He protect you today. Amen.
