Breakfast with the Word Monday First Week of Lent Shorter Version
The reflection on Gospel of Matthew 25:31–46 reminds us that the true spirit of Lent goes beyond fasting, prayer, and personal sacrifices. While these practices are important, they are incomplete without genuine love expressed through acts of charity and mercy.
True religion, as taught in Scripture, is caring for the poor, the hungry, the sick, prisoners, widows, orphans, and all those considered “the least.”
Jesus teaches that at the final judgment, people will be separated like sheep and goats based on how they treated others. What truly distinguishes the righteous is not how much they prayed or fasted, but the love and compassion they showed in practical ways.

Whatever we do—or fail to do—for the least of our brothers and sisters, we do to Christ Himself.
Lent, therefore, is a season of love in action. It calls us to examine how we treat those around us, especially the vulnerable and forgotten.
Without charity, our prayers and sacrifices lose their meaning. The true spirit of Lent is mercy, generosity, forgiveness, and sincere care for others.
May God bless us dearest and be with you in all you do. Amen
