Breakfast With the Word Friday 12th Week Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

Matthew 8:1–4

This reflection reminds us that there are times we feel unworthy of God’s mercy because of our past sins, mistakes, or present struggles. Like the leper in the Gospel, we may feel abandoned, rejected, or beyond forgiveness. The leper in Jewish society was completely isolated, seen as unclean and cut off from both people and religious life, yet he still found the courage to approach Jesus.

Despite social and religious barriers, Jesus responds with compassion, touches the leper, and heals him—showing that nothing can separate us from His mercy. Jesus is always willing to make us clean, forgive us, and restore us, no matter how far we think we have fallen.

The message also calls us to imitate Christ by being compassionate toward others—offering support, kindness, encouragement, and healing presence rather than judgment or rejection. Sometimes, what people need most is not money, but love, understanding, and a helping hand.

In summary, Jesus is always willing to cleanse and restore us, and we are called to extend that same love to others.
