Breakfast With the Word Monday 15th Week Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version
Matthew 10:34–11:1
Jesus gave everything for our salvation through His suffering, death, and resurrection. The best way to appreciate His sacrifice is to love Him above all things and allow that love to guide our actions.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds His disciples that following Him may bring challenges, opposition, and even division. The “sword” He speaks of represents the struggles that come when people choose to live according to God’s truth in a world that may reject it. True peace comes to those who faithfully follow His teachings.

Jesus teaches us that our love for Him must come before every other relationship. This does not mean we should not love our family, but that nothing should take the place of God in our hearts. Our faith should remain strong even when we face difficulties, disappointments, or trials.
Taking up our cross means accepting sacrifices, struggles, and temptations for the sake of Christ. We are called to remain faithful not only in good times but also in moments of suffering.
Jesus also reminds us that anyone who welcomes His followers welcomes Him. Every act of love, kindness, prayer, and service done for others is done for Christ.
May we always allow our love for Jesus to be greater than every challenge, and may He give us the strength to remain faithful to Him. Amen.
