Breakfast with the Word Wednesday Week 2 in Ordinary Time of the Year
Mark 3:1-6
In todayβs gospel of Mark 3:1-6, Jesus enters a synagogue as usual. In the synagogue, there was a man who has a withered hand. The Pharisees and the teachers watch sternly at Him to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.
Knowing what they are harbouring in their hearts, Jesus asks them if it is good or evil to save life or to kill. They said nothing.
Looking angrily at them and despite their evil intention and plan against Him, Jesus brought the man out in the middle and healed the man.
Instead of becoming happy that Jesus relieves someone of his pains and sickness, the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians on how to eliminate Jesus.

The Danger Ahead.
In this episode, Jesus knows the danger ahead. He knows what the leaders are planning against Him. In Mark 3:1-6, Mark says that they are watching Him closely to see if He would heal or not on the sabbath day.
Jesus knows they will eventually plan to kill Him after this. Yet in all these, nothing stopped Jesus from doing good. In life let no one, let nothing stop you from doing good.
Do not expect every person to be happy with whatever you do but always focus on doing what is right. There may be some people who because of the fear of the unknown or the fear of an imminent attack may like to join the winning team even if the winning team is not doing well.
In this gospel of Mark 3:1-6, Jesus tells us that it is even better to stand alone protecting lives than joining a winning force that does not mean good for people. Let nothing stop you from doing good even if it means standing alone.
Not Everyone means Good.
When you look at what happened today (In this gospel of Mark 3:1-6), we would observe that the leaders are not interested in what Jesus is teaching or doing.
Their interest is not even on how to become like Jesus and also heal the people that come to them. They are not prepared to learn but always ready to fight, attack and destroy.
We have these kinds of people around us. We always find them in our homes, families, places of work, among our friends etc. Like these people come around Jesus today, they always come around you but they look for little opportunities to pull you down and make jest of you. Not everyone who comes close means good.
These leaders are in the synagogue and would have been happy that a man was delivered from pains through Jesus. These healing today is supposed to be a reason to be joyful, but this was not even their intention.
In the same vein, some who come around you also have different intentions. Always be careful with people. Remember this happened in the synagogue.
Today also, many come to churches with different intentions. Not all you see in a place of worship are there to worship God. But despite these, let nothing stop you from worshiping God and doing what is good.
It is better if we can save than to Kill.
In Mark 3:1-6, Jesus reveals and teaches us today is that it is better to save a life than to kill it. Despite the opposition and challenges, let nothing stop you from doing good. The problem with the Jewish leaders is that they see Jesus as a rival when His focus is nothing but to do the will of God.
There are times you work and people begin to envy you for nothing. Some may begin to see you as a rival. This sometimes makes you feel worried and distressed. Beloved, always focus on doing what is right. At last, your good heart will vindicate all you do. It is better to help, save, protect and build than to destroy, kill and allow something to go wrong just because someone will begin to think somehow. At last, it is our good deeds that speak for us on the judgement day and not our silence.
May God bless you dearest and give us the grace to do good always. May He always protect you. Amen
