Matthew 5:20-26: Nothing Surpasses Peace. Friday First Week of Lent

Breakfast with the Word: Friday First Week of Lent Shorter Version

In Gospel of Matthew 5:20–26, Jesus teaches that reconciliation is essential. He warns not only against physical harm but also against anger and unresolved conflict.

He emphasizes that if we remember someone has something against us, we should first go and make peace before offering our gift to God. Peace and reconciliation take priority over religious acts.

This message reminds us that unresolved conflicts can grow into greater harm if ignored. True discipleship is shown through forgiveness, humility, and the willingness to settle misunderstandings. Sadly, many families and communities today live in division, pride, and silent hostility, even among believers.

Where there is peace, there is growth, unity, and progress; where there is no peace, there is suffering, stagnation, and destruction. Jesus insists on peace because God dwells in a peaceful heart. During this Lenten season, we are called to reconcile, forgive, and live in harmony with one another.

May God bless you dearest, and give us the grace to live in peace. May He make our life peaceful and guide us in all we do today. Amen.
