Breakfast with the Word. Tuesday 2nd Week of Lent Shorter Version
In Matthew 23:1–12, Jesus challenges the common understanding of greatness. Many people desire recognition, praise, and honour, often going to great lengths to appear important. He criticizes the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy — doing things only to be seen and admired while neglecting genuine service to God.
They sought titles, positions of honour, and public recognition, but their actions were rooted in pride rather than sincerity.

Jesus teaches that true greatness is not found in status, titles, or outward appearances, but in humble service. Authority, talents, and positions are not meant for self-glory but for serving God and others.
When we seek personal praise instead of serving with love, our actions become empty and displeasing to God.
True greatness lies in willingly serving others with what God has given us.
May God help us to serve Him willingly, and May He continue to direct us in whatever we do. Amen.
