Breakfast with the Word Wednesday First Week of Advent
The secret about Jesus is what we are yet to comprehend. If we truly know the truth about Jesus we will always seek His face day in and day out.
Jesus reveals Himself mainly to those who develop sincere love and devotion to Him. When we begin a devotion to visit Him daily and read His word, we will now be the people to tell the world about this Man the world neglects.
The heart of Jesus cannot but love. But today, problems, challenges, temptations and unnecessary distractions constantly disrupt our faith in Him and make us extremely weak whenever the things of God are mentioned.
Many times the things we read and encounter in life affect the way we see God. We are yet to come to terms about the nature of this our Messiah.
When we meticulously read the gospel today, we will have insights on the secret about Jesus whose name is mentioned every day.
Today, Jesus goes up to the mountain where the people bring the lame, the sick, blind, mute and many others. He heals them all. Not only that He notices that the people have stayed three days in His presence and have eaten nothing. Jesus is reluctant to send them away like that because anything may happen to them.
He has to find a way to feed the people. Despite that, Jesus and His apostles have little which is only seven loaves and a few small fish. Jesus tells his apostles to give that little to the crowd after praying over it.
This alone will expose to us the type of heart Jesus has. Despite the little, they have, Jesus is always willing to give it to those around Him.
This explains the reason many people who visit the Blessed Sacrament as a devotion are always blessed with enormous gifts and spiritual strength.
When we meet Him, He is eager to bless us with whatever He has, despite how little it is. Jesus is not ready to withhold anything for His beloved children. We have to know this great secret about Him.
We can interpret this chapter of the bible in varied forms but our attention today centers on the personality of this Jesus who is more interested to save than to injure, more interested in other people’s welfare than His. This is Jesus for you.
What We May Not Know.
There is something we may not know about Jesus or that we know it but do not care about the truth of it.
To unravel this truth, let us read John 8:1-11 of the story of the woman caught in adultery.
In this chapter, the teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought the woman before Jesus to cast stones on her. They were ready to kill and eliminate her but they made a very big mistake.
They would have taken her to Pilate, Kaifas or Herod. But in the presence of Jesus is mercy, compassion and love. Jesus cannot but have mercy.
In the Bible, All the people that shouted “Jesus pity me” were not abandoned. If we truly know this, we will rush to His presence every day.
The First Thing to know
1.The First thing to know about Jesus is that His heart cannot but love you. The problem is that we do not have His time. When problems come, we blame Him for everything but yet He may be the reason you are still alive. He may be the reason you are where you are today.
2.In today’s gospel, this secret about Jesus motivated Him to cure all those that were brought to Him without leaving no one. He did not play favouritism. He was not interested if they are Jews or gentiles. Jesus was not interested if they hate Him or not. He did not ask whether they are sinners or righteous, he did not ask them if they have fasted before. Jesus did not judge any or begin to question their past. He just healed them all.
3.This secret about Jesus also leads Him to feed them all. The gospel says when He looked at them, He was filled with compassion.
Jesus knows that they have been with Him for three days eating nothing. His heart could not allow them to go with an empty stomach.
He fed them from the little they have.
Jesus did not care if He had something to eat or not, He did not ask them to keep it for the disciples to eat. He uses even the little He has. What a Heart!! If we grasp the mystery about Jesus, we will love Him beyond all things and approach Him daily.
Daily Visitation to the Blessed Sacrament is very beautiful encounter that sweetest the soul. Whoever develops or practices it increases in spiritual strength and holiness.
When we meet Jesus daily, we encounter light, mercy, love, forgiveness of sins, power, bountiful graces and most of all, eternal life. Yet, we abandon these to pursue shadows. Let us make out time for Jesus.
Let Us Be like Jesus
After reading this, we can then ask ourselves ‘Can I be like Jesus?’ Sincerely if everyone in every level of the government and organization can possess this kind of heart, things will change. But we choose to live with hatred, envy, tribalism, political disintegrations, jealousy, family discord etc.
We want only our stomach and nothing more, we want people to respect only us and sing our praises.
So, because of this, we can go to any length to make money and rise to power.
Your family is suffering but God raised you to be a blessing to them. Instead of working according to God’s plan, you become a terror to your family. Can we be like Jesus?
Also, we can ask ourselves ‘how many times have we decided not to help someone because He is not from our town or brother?’ Is it because you did not achieve your secret intention of coming to Him/Her?
What truly made you block someone’s progress? Is it because you do not want Him to be greater than you? Or is it because you did not achieve your selfish desire?
We can also ask; What is truly the reason behind the good things that we do? What truly made us hate someone? Why do we allow ourselves to wander in the ocean of greediness that we refuse to share even a little we have with someone we know who is in need?
Why am do we still live in grudges and envy of someone around us? How many times have we used our positions to intimidate people and send them out because they come to us for help? Can Jesus do the same?
May God forgive us and help us to be like Him. May He continue to abide with us in everything we do. Amen

Today’s reflection reminds me of the popular hymn “what a friend we have in Jesus, all our grieves and pains to bear. What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer.
Oh what peace we often forfeit. Oh what needless pain we bear. All because we so not carry everything to God in prayer…
If only we know the Jesus we serve, if only we know how much His heart loves and cares for us, only then can we spare times for Him.
Today’s reflection also calls us to imitate Jesus’ life by loving, caring and praying for people around us regardless of their relationship with us or whether they’re righteous or sinners. Or whether we will gain anything from them or not.
May the God Lord bless us and make our heart like His. Amen
Jesus has shown us today that is always ready to help us all we need is to give him that chance. He has shown us that he doesn’t look at our sinful nature when he wants to bless us because he’s a merciful God. He’s calling on us today to extend that mercy and compassion to those around not just for our own interest but for the good and success of all. I pray the good Lord will give us the heart to treat everyone equal
Lord Jesus, Grant that I may imitate you in all I do so as to observe the full secret in coming close to you both now and forever… AMEN. May your words be blessed in every souls that reads it … AMEN
Jesus portrays selflessness in all he does, He is the Alpha and Omega yet he humbled himself to serve us, in the Gospel of today, it has inspired me to be selfless as well, never to look down on anyone no matter the position I may be but to have a heart as pure as Christ himself.
