Breakfast with the Word Reflection Thursday After Ash Wednesday Shorter Version
In Luke 9:22–25, Jesus reminds us that being His disciple is not about miracles, favour, or open doors alone. Many lose faith when their prayers for healing or blessings seem unanswered, forgetting that Christianity is not miracle-based but centered on the salvation of our souls.
To be a true follower of Christ means three things: to deny oneself, to take up one’s cross daily, and to come after Him. Denying oneself means refusing to let ego, worldly desires, or personal ambitions take God’s place in our lives.

Taking up the cross means remaining faithful despite temptations, weaknesses, persecutions, or challenges that may try to pull us away from God. Coming after Jesus means living as He lived—being humble, faithful, merciful, and consistent both in public and in private.
Discipleship involves sacrifice, especially during this Lenten season, and calls us to examine whether we truly live for Christ.
May God helps us to live the way He wants, may He continue to give us the grace to come close to Him. Amen.
