Breakfast with the Word: Saturday of the 2nd Week of Lent
Luke 15:1–3, 11–32
The story of the prodigal son is very familiar to many Christians. While some reflections focus on the elder brother, today’s reflection highlights the return of the prodigal son and what it teaches us about returning to God.

First, the decision to return must come from the heart. The prodigal son realized the emptiness of life away from his father and freely decided to go back. In the same way, returning to God requires a sincere decision, true sorrow for our sins, and a willingness to leave our sinful ways behind.
When the son returned, the father ran to meet him with compassion and love. This shows that God is always waiting and ready to forgive anyone who sincerely repents and confesses their sins.
After his return, the father embraced him, gave him new clothes, and restored his dignity. This symbolizes how God removes our sins, renews us with grace, and restores us when we truly repent. The father did not dwell on the past but celebrated his son’s return, reminding us that heaven rejoices whenever a sinner comes back to God.
God have mercy on us and give us the grace to remain close to Him Amen.
