Blessed Are We if We Do These. Monday 10th Week of Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

Breakfast With the Word Monday 10th Week of Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter Version

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is His inaugural address, given on a mountain — a place of encounter with God. Blessed (Greek Makarios) means “fortunate” or “happy,” and true blessing comes from God alone.

Who is blessed? Those who live God’s way:

• Poor in spirit: Not about money, but those who depend totally on God and don’t let wealth affect their relationship with Him.

• Those who mourn: Who grieve over sin and agree with God about the evil in their hearts.

• Others blessed: Those who hunger for justice and righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, peacemakers, and those who suffer for God’s sake.

Worldly vs. Godly blessing

The world chases wealth, pride, pleasure, and power. Jesus flips that: He blesses humility, dependence on God, mourning over sin, and hunger for righteousness. True joy isn’t in possessions or status that vanish, but in a right relationship with God and peace with others.

Takeaway: Everything we do has a reward. The Beatitudes show that real blessedness comes from seeking what is above, not selfish ambition or earthly gain.

May we seek the things of God to be worthy of His Kingdom.
