God is Eager to hear our Prayers. Thursday 27th Week

ads

Breakfast with the Word Thursday 27th week Ordinary Time of the year B

 Luke 11:5-13

God is eager to hear our prayers may sound so unreal to many people. The reason is that many are passing through lots of challenges. But this does not mean that God is not listening to our prayers.

In God is that willingness to respond positively to our requests. There are times we pray, and our prayers seem unanswered.

There are times we beseech the Face of God, and it looks as if God is not hearing us, sometimes we become weak and feel God is not willing.

The truth is that God cannot be pushed to do things the way we want but the way He wants. It is not that He is not willing but that we are not willing to ask much of Him.

Being a lovely Father, He is always willing to respond to His beloved children. God is eager to hear our prayers, but in all things, His will supersedes.

God’s Eagerness to answer our prayers in today’s Gospel .

Jesus uses a parable to explain how our persistence in prayers can bring down God’s blessings. In the parable are two people; the one who asks and the one who gives.

Some things would have made the one who gives not to listen to the request of the one who asks. The reasons are:

  1. The request was in the middle of the night which is a dangerous time

(ii) He asks not just for One but three loaves of bread which in the time of Jesus is enough for three persons.

(iii) the one who asks did not consider that the one who gives also has children to take care of. So under normal circumstances, the one who gives wouldn’t have listened to Him.

Here, Jesus teaches us that there is no circumstance, despite how it may look like will cause God not to answer our prayers.

The reason according to the parable why the one who gives later responds to his requests are

  1. They are friends
  2. The constant knocking of the one who asks.

To stop him from further disturbance, He has to respond to Him. Hence Luke is not telling us that God can be pushed. What the gospel is telling us is that we should not give up on God despite however it may seem.

This is because we are more than friends with God. We are His beloved children.

When You knock, do not get down if the door seems not to open. When you ask, do not get tired if it is not coming the way you want.

Therefore, when you seek God’s favour, do not think of giving up. Be persistent in whatever you do, God may answer in a time we least expect.

 It is His Loving Nature.

The Greek word used in that parable today is anaideia. Anaideia is used to describe the character of the one who gives. This is not necessarily because of the persistence of the one who asks but to avoid his disturbance.

So, the parable hence means that God responds to us not necessarily because we are pushing Him but it is in his character to listen to us whenever we cry to Him for help. It is already in the loving nature of God to save and protect his children.

Finally, this parable also supports the importance of asking. Jesus says “ask”. Jesus does not tell us to keep mute and wait on God when we do not get answers to the prayer.

The pointer is that when we understand the loving character of He whom we ask, we will always feel free to ask. When we understand the loving nature of God, we should not give up on coming to His presence. God is eager to hear our prayers.

Do not lose hope in God. Let us emulate the trust and persistence of the person who was disturbing His friend in today’s gospel.

In the gospel, Jesus says “So I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For the one who asks always receives; the one who searches always finds; the one who knocks will always have the door opened to him”.

In the above promise, we can see the love of God. We can see His eagerness to solve and help us in need. The pointer is that God wants us to trust Him. We have lost trust in God because of the love of the world and the problems we encounter every day.

If we can trust our beloved parents, then we have to trust our heavenly Father. God is eager to hear our prayers. He is eager to listen. God is always available.

Do not see Him as someone who is far. God is eager to hear our prayers even when it seems He is silent.

God is eager to hear our prayers even at that point we seem like losing hope. So, when things do not go our way, the best thing is not to run away from God.

The best thing is to continue to knock at His door. The doors of blessings and open doors are for everyone but only if we are willing to continue knocking. One day, your story will become history. The graces of God are available for everybody. So, keep your faith strong.

God is eager to hear our prayers even when we do not trust Him again. The reason for today’s parable is to let the apostles know the need to keep trusting in God, even when He seems to be silent.

Therefore, Jesus is telling them that the seeming silence is not silence at all.

The message is that God wants us to make more effort. He wants us to increase our faith, to come more closer to Him.

God wants us to knock harder. He does not want us to give up. Jesus says in the gospel that even if the man does not get up and give it to him for friendship’s sake, persistence will be enough to make him get up and give his friend all he wants”.

Keep The faith Strong.

Therefore, Jesus is telling us the need to keep our faith so strong and continue keeping the faith despite the seeming silence of God.

Therefore, God is eager to hear our prayer, we do not have to lose hope in Him. The seeming silence of God is telling you “push harder”.

Jesus says “What father among you would hand his son a stone when he asked for bread? Or hand him a snake instead of a fish? Or hand him a scorpion if he asked for an egg? If you then, who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

In essence, If our parents can do everything to take care of us, then our heavenly Father does more than that. He is willing to give us His spirit, His graces, power, spiritual strength etc. If we ask of any.

Therefore, the trust we suppose to have in God must be greater than that of any person despite how close the person is to us.

So let us know that God is always eager to hear our prayers. What we need are faith, confidence and total trust in His love.

May God help and answer our prayers. May His love consistently remain with us. Amen.
