Breakfast With the Word Wednesday 13th Week in Ordinary Time of the Year Shorter version
Matthew 8:28–34
The presence of Jesus is powerful and transformative. In today’s Gospel, the demoniacs immediately react to Jesus’ arrival, showing that even demons cannot withstand His presence. This reveals that being close to Jesus brings healing, deliverance, holiness, and change.

However, many Christians struggle to remain in God’s presence, even though it is the source of spiritual strength. Ironically, demons understand Jesus’ power more than many believers do, often trying to distract us from prayer, church, and the Blessed Sacrament.
The Gospel also shows the power of Jesus’ words—when He speaks, everything obeys: demons, storms, and sickness. Yet humans often doubt His words and remain in suffering.
We are encouraged to stay close to Jesus daily through prayer, Mass, and the Blessed Sacrament, because His presence is the key to grace, strength, and transformation.
